Fireplace - Main floor living room
Lighting the fire in the Living Room
General notes:
- This fireplace is designed to offer more of an atmospheric fire and not as a primary heating source
- It is important not to use a lot of wood across the width of the fireplace – typically operate the fire with maximum 3-4 pieces of wood in total in the middle
- There are two screens built into the fireplace – a mesh screen and a glass screen. For safety it is recommended to always operate the fire with both screens closed. At a minimum the fire should be operated with the mesh screen closed
Before starting the fire
It is necessary to open the air flow. There are two things to check (see pictures above)
- The mechanical lever to the left of the fire has to be at the top position to operate the fire. It is moved by pushing the lever away from the fire and moving it upwards at the same time
- Check the flue flap on the top is open. The silver ring should be up and if you tug it down you can feel the flap move to the closed position. If the flap is closed, you can free the chain mechanism, so the flap moves open and the silver ring is up.
For your convenience, the fire is ready to be lit upon arrival. Should you wish to light the fire subsequently, here are the steps:
Step 1
Place just a small amount of kindling and wood in the fireplace
Step 2
Place the Firestarter below the wood
Step 3
Light the fire
Step 4
Close the window/mesh – you can use the mechanical key on the right hand side to move the glass window up and down
Step 5
Maintaining the fire. Only use 2-3 more pieces of wood at a time, do not overload the fire with wood
Step 6
Putting out the fire – no action needed, it will just slowly stop. Keep both doors on the front closed

Fireplace - Veranda - STUV
Lighting the STUV Fire in the Veranda General notes: - This fire is designed to operate with the door closed. The only time the door should be open for an active fire, is for the initial lighting period and to re-load wood. - This fire is very effective at creating heat once it reaches temperature - It is not necessary to have a lot of wood to create a high heat – 2 pieces are more than sufficient for several hours - The intensity of the air is controlled with the slider at the bottom section of the STUV Starting the fire Step 1. The door is opened and closed with the mechanical key inserted into the slot on the main door. Note the only way to fully close the door, is with the mechanical key. Do not try to force shut the door without the key! Step 2 Insert maximum 2 pieces of wood Step 3 Insert 1 fire-starter between the wood Step 4 Ensure air is fully opened (lever on bottom section all the way to the right) Step 5 Light the fire-starter Step 6 For the initial 10-15 mins of lighting, leave the door ajar a couple of inches Step 7 When the wood has started to catch fire, close the door fully with the mechanical key Step 8 After a while it will get quite hot in the room. If too hot, reduce the air intake at the bottom. All the way to the right is maximum air / heat. All the way to the left is minimum air/heat Step 9 Maintaining the fire – to maintain the fire, just add one piece of wood at a time, if the current wood has reduced significantly – no flames just embers. It will get very hot in the room if you add too much wood at the same time Caution: Be careful opening the door to add more fuel. Open it 1-2 inches first to ensure the flames or embers to not blow outside and then open the door fully to re-load the wood Step 10 Putting out the fire – the fire will slowly stop if you put the air to the minimum (all the way to the left). Cleaning the fire for subsequent use There is a small metal ash bucket in the bottom section of the STUV that you can slide out, to empty the ash. Note, be careful of hot ash and the black bucket beside the fire can be used to let the ash cool down over 24hrs before disposing of it There is also an agitator mechanism to clear embers in the grate, which is operated with the same mechanical key that opens the door Enjoy !
