Versant Nord

First thing’s first — consider hitting the wooded area that offers windy paths and great views of the town down below. Versant Nord, also known as the Tunnel Trail, is an exciting and challenging path that can be accessed using the Lowell-Thomas Trail. Make sure you build up your speed as you head here, winding through the narrow corridor and leading out to the wooded forest. This steep slope is a great break from the crowded main path.

Versant Soleil

This ‘hidden’ trail is a bit of a walk from the main path, which makes it slightly less accessible and crowded than other more popular paths on the mountain. We recommend using the Ryan Haut on Versant Sud to get here or the Versant Soleil Laurentienne path to access this steep trail. Or you can walk or ski around 5-10 minutes from the merging of the Sud and Soleil hillsides. No matter which way you choose, you will be rewarded with incredible views from the head of the trail!

Le Versant Edge

Another popular trail and must-visit area for avid skiers and snowboarders in Mont-Tremblant is Le Versant Edge, but we recommend that only advanced skiers take this challenge! Skiing off piste and off the trail is a very different sport and game than a well-manicured green slope. This hillside trail feels more like you’re going down a mountainside on your own, which can add to the excitement and fervor for expert athletes. Weave your way down the Le Versant Edge by taking the Emotion or Sensation paths, or the central Haute Tension path.

Marie-Claude Asselin

Marie-Claude Asselin is a fun trail on the Versant Nord that used to be a T-bar lift, but now is popular among locals and frequent Mont-Tremblant visitors for those who like moguls, steep slopes, wooded and secluded areas, and far-reaching views! If you want to keep up with your fitness and test your off-piste skills, there is nowhere better.

Après Ski After a Few Runs

Once you have tried your luck at the different runs around Mont-Tremblant, you might feel a bit peckish or thirsty. Where should you go for a nice après ski drink or meal? Fortunately for you, there are tons of options to choose from! We recommend going to the Microbrasserie La Diable in the late afternoon or evening for a perfect pour of craft beer, shareable appetizers to split with the entire table, and filling pub food that will warm you up after multiple cold hours on the mountain.

Skip the Queues

One of the main things to keep in mind is how to ditch the crowds and have more peace during your mountainous adventure. The last thing you want is to wait in line for hours and hours to queue for a ski pass, lift, or après ski drink. We recommend finding lesser-used lifts and off-piste runs that make it feel a bit more relaxing and adventurous. One of the best parts of Mont-Tremblant to explore includes Versant Nord. The parking is easy to find, and there are a variety of lifts. We also recommend taking a different pathway of lifts to get to the top of the mountain to skip crowds, such as combining a lift to the Versant Sud and then changing to another gondola to the top of Versant Soleil.

As you can see, there is so much for you to do and see during your time in Mont-Tremblant. And if you are an avid snow bunny, make sure you hit the slopes of the nearby resorts during your time in this prestigious mountain town. There are different areas for you to explore, including challenging hillside paths and easy green slopes that make it suitable for beginners. Lace up your ski boots, buy your season pass, and head out on the mountain!

Even though Mont-Tremblant is known for hiking, biking, and extreme sports, it doesn’t mean you need to avoid this location if you are traveling with young children. In fact, there is so much to do when you head here with toddlers and babies that you may find it is your new annual vacation spot!  Plus, if you find a babysitter or bring a family member with you, you can still escape for date nights, hard hikes, winery tours, and brewery adventures. But if you want to do a family event for you and your young children, don’t worry—there are dozens of Mont Tremblant family activities and attractions that fit the bill!

Brindo Aqua Club

Brindo Aquaclub is arguably one of the best kids’ attractions and activities in Mont-Tremblant. This fun and exciting activity is right in the middle of Mont-Tremblant and offers kid-friendly areas for parents to teach their young ones how to swim, hold their breath underwater, get comfortable with the deep end, and socialize with other children. This fun aqua activity center features over four slides, 35+ water games, and areas that are specifically designed for toddlers and young kids.

Mont-Tremblant Activity Centre

Even if you have young toddlers and children who may not be the most “outdoorsy” types, this is still a smart spot to head for a full-day trip out of the bustle of the town. The Activity Centre offers activities and attractions for kids of all ages and fitness levels, such as sleigh riding, horse drawn carriage rides, canoeing with the family, treetop walks, ice fishing, and much more. We recommend doing the horse-drawn sleigh ride and carriage rides through the fresh snowfall if you have young kids when you come here in the wintertime!

Adventures Neige Mont-Tremblant

Aventures Neige is a picturesque and exciting place for you to go with your young children for the best snow tubing of your entire life! Even with children under three years old, you can put them on your lap and enjoy a fast sleigh ride down the pearly-white hills. There are two tube lifts, so you can easily go on eight rides for beginners and soak up the incredible scenery around your accommodation and the entire town of Mont-Tremblant.

Grab a Bite to Eat

When you visit Mont-Tremblant, you will never run out of fantastic places to grab a bite to eat! When you wake up early in the morning, your kids might be cranky and whining. In that case, you need to get them food — and get them food fast! Luckily for you, there are dozens of breakfast and brunch spots that are really going to hit the spot, and also offer kid-friendly food that won’t break the bank.

During your first day of vacation, we recommend going to Restaurant Arome de Cafe Bistro. This restaurant is right on the main street in Mont-Tremblant and features a huge terrace that overlooks the entire town, ensuring you and your family can be as loud as they want! We recommend heading here and getting a traditional Canadian breakfast, sipping on a hot cup of coffee, and trying some of the staple dishes. For your children, order French toast with cranberries for them to split!

For the second day of vacation, it is time to head to a kid-friendly favorite – Maison de la Crepe! If your young children enjoy sweet snacks and the odd bite of chocolate or a spoonful of Nutella, then head to this creperie to try a few of the best combinations. We recommend trying the Grand Maman Gateau if you can only choose one.

Lastly, take your kids to Le Charlotte Cafe to pick up some flaky and buttery croissants to go on a nice picnic and walk. We love grabbing a few croissants and savory items, like bacon or sausage, and going on a walk to Parc des Chutes, Domaine Saint Bernard, or Ski de Fond Mont-Tremblant to enjoy exercise and burn off some breakfast calories.

Go Shopping

Last but not least, you may have forgotten to pack something in your suitcase – or your kids just love to go shopping! In this case, we recommend going to one of the numerous children’s clothing stores or baby clothing stores to pick up a much-needed outfit for your child. If you head here during the winter, you can pick up a fluffy and warm jacket at Boutique Bebe NK Inc. If you need a bathing suit for the summer season, head to Sauterelles et Coccinelles Mont-Tremblant on Rue de St Jovite. And if you need to pick up some accessories for your young toddler, head to Billie le Kid on Chem de la Chapelle.

Mont-Tremblant is a beautiful city with a deep and interesting history. If you want to get to know your destination a bit before visiting, we’ve put together a brief guide to the history of Mont-Tremblant below for your enjoyment!

17th Century

The 17th century is when the story of Mont-Tremblant first begins! The Weskarini Algonquin Native American tribe were the first residents and inhabitants of the valley. The Riviere du Diable Valley featured fresh food and water for the Native Americans to use in their civilization. The Algonquins called the surrounding area ‘Soutana Trembling’ mountain due to its incredible stature and their belief it was made and inhabited by a Great Spirit.

19th Century

After the initial civilization in the 17th century, the Native American tribes were undisturbed for the next 200 or so years. That is, until approximately 1870, when the very end of the 19th century was marked by an influx of technology, people, settlers, and labor. Lumberjacks began moving into the area to chop down trees, the printing press was now used in the North, and workers started utilizing the Riviere du Diable and Le Boule et Rouge for transportation and extra work.

Other notable achievements during the 19th century included the founding of Pariosse Saint-Jovite, the founding of the municipality of the united townships of Salaberry and Grandison, and the arrival of the first train locomotive at the railway station.

20th Century

At the very beginning of the 20th century, transportation and opportunities for those in Mont-Tremblant expanded as the P’tit Train du Nord expanded and extended as far as Lac Mercier, one of the most famous and widely known lakes in the area. Electricity saw a change in the way the town was run, as a small-scale hydroelectric center on the Riviere du Diable provided electricity for homes by the village, railway station, and the Ruisseau Clair.

Just one year later, the Gray Rock Inn was built on the banks of the lake and run by the famous Wheeler family. 5 years later, a new hydroelectric center was built on the Ruisseau Noir and created a new electric distribution to more areas of the town. Three years later, in 1915, the Municipality de Lac-Trembalnt-Nord was officially founded.

Throughout the 20th century, the town saw many important changes begin to take place and alter the way in which the inhabitants lived and flourished within the country. Joseph Bondurant Ryan became the first owner of the Mont-Tremblant Lodge, which would later go on to be called Mont-Tremblant Resort, back in 1938. One year later, they launched the first ski lift that runs from the mountain lodge to 4,200 feet high above the ground. Just 12 months after the chair lift innovation, the Municipality de Mont-Tremblant was founded, creating the beautiful area and municipality we know, and love, today.

Mont-Tremblant Resort was then acquired by Intrawest, a real estate development company, at the end of the 20th century, seeing it become the focus of even bigger and broader projects.

21st Century

At the turn of the century, the Ville de Mont-Tremblant was formed through the combination of four municipalities: Municipalité de Mont-Tremblant, Municipality de la Paroisse de Saint-Jovite, Ville de Saint-Jovite, and Municipalité de Lac-Tremblant-Nord. The Quebec government allowed Quebec citizens to then merge into these municipalities.

In the period between 2006-2008, the Municipal Court, Passerelle du Ruisseau Clair, and Municipal Garage were all created. The Jackrabbit Bridge was built one year later and provided access via the La Villageoise de Mont-Tremblant Trail and the Beauvallon Bridge.

Current Times

Today, Mont-Tremblant is home to almost 11,000 inhabitants, with most of the people living in approximately 5,400 dwellings. Mont-Tremblant features a land area of just under 91 square miles and has a population density of almost 122 people per square mile, according to the latest 2021 Census Population by Statistics Canada.

The population has steadily grown throughout the years, showing how the tourism industry and media have influenced the town today. The population was just over 8,300 in 2001 and has since increased to almost 11,000 in 2021, showing a growth of almost 3,000 people in the last 20 years. 87% of individuals here speak French as their first language, with 8% speaking English and 2.8% speaking other languages.

Understanding the history of a place can make you appreciate the location even more. That is why we think that knowing just how Mont-Tremblant came to be can give you even more love and respect for just how beautiful this town really is. The surrounding nature, bright blue lake waters, snow-capped peaks, lush green forests, and downtown shops bring people in from all over the world. There are thousands of miles of trails in Mont Tremblant, ranging from easy paths to challenging peak-topping trails that are sure to get your lungs firing.  Here are the best 5 hikes in Mont Tremblant.

The Best 5 Hikes in Mont Tremblant

If you are a beginner hiker, there are dozens of nature paths and biking trails that are suitable for younger kids and older adults. However, if you are keen to push the limits, then check out some of these hikes in Mont Tremblant that are sure to get your legs pumping, heart pounding, and good vibes flowing!

Nez de l’Indien

The Nez de l’Indien trail is a moderate 8.4-kilometer trail that features almost 350 meters of elevation gain throughout the route. This trail is usually considered an easy/moderate trail depending on the weather and hikers’ fitness levels, so expect to spend between 2-4 hours on this fun and exciting out-and-back adventure!

Locals and tourists who have hiked this trail before state the views are amazing, there are multiple points to stop and rest on the trail, and the shaded forest is great on a hot sunny day. You will be traveling over undulating terrain, which keeps it slightly difficult without being too tough. This trail begins on the other side of the lake across from Mont Tremblant and Pic Johannsen — another popular trail that is great for a full day of hiking. Throughout the Nez trail, you will be able to take amazing views of the Montagne Verte.

Mont Nixon

The second trail that is an absolute must-do during your time in Mont Tremblant if you have past experience with hiking is the Mont Nixon trail, an 8.0-kilometer trail that features nearly 450 meters of elevation gain. This looped trail is easy to follow and fun for people of varying fitness levels, usually taking between 2.5-4 hours.

Past hikers state the trail is not very hard, has amazing views, and just has one steep uphill — after the uphill, it is mainly downhill until the end of the trail. Make sure you bring your camera, snacks, and a map so you are safe during the entirety of your journey. This hike starts near Lac Superieur and Lac aux Ours, just off of route Chem Adelard and Chem du Canton Archambault. You can tackle Little Nixon Peak before moving on to the rest of the Mont Nixon trail!

La Villageoise Loop

Our third choice for the top hikes in the Mont Tremblant area is an easy hike that is good for beginner hikers, families with small children, or those with limited fitness levels. The easy and fun La Villageoise Loop is a 6.6-kilometer looped trail that features just 127 meters of elevation gain throughout the trip. This easy stroll takes between 1.25 and 2 hours, depending on your walking speed and the number of stops.

This area is extremely popular for hikes and walks, so you will never feel secluded or alone in the woods. Plus, you can easily start this hike right from one of our properties, as the loop begins in the heart of Mont Tremblant and takes you through forests, along the river, by the lake, and provides amazing views of the nearby peaks.

Grand Brule

The Grand Brule is a 7.2-mile trail that is an out-and-back, meaning that you won’t complete it in a circular direction with a loop. This is a more difficult trail, so we love it for advanced and expert hikers who really want to break a sweat and spend 4-5 hours out on the mountain! This trail is located in the Laurentides in Canada, featuring a dirty, rocky, and gravelly terrain that brings you to the top of huge rock formations with incredible views. The trail has an average grade of approximately 10% and a max grade of 28%. You will climb over 850 meters high into the sky across the ski and snowboard slopes.

Pic Johannsen

Another great trail located around Mont Tremblant is the Pic Johannsen trail located in Southern Quebec. This beautiful and tough climb starts right from a nearby village, so it is ideal for starting and ending with a cup of coffee or a bite to eat! You will traverse for hours over two peaks and then head back to the starting point in a circular trail.

We love this trail for advanced hikers who want to spend an entire day out on the mountain without tons of crowds. The average grade of this trail is 9%, with a maximum grade of 28%. You will traverse 800 meters up and 800 meters down, so your legs are definitely going to be sore tomorrow! Bring snacks and drinks since you will be hiking nearly 18 kilometers on this beautiful loop trail near Tremblant.

There is no shortage of hiking trails here in Mont Tremblant! Head here to challenge yourself and push your limits, then go home to rest and recover at one of our luxury homes from Tremblant Living.

This guide to our Mother’s Day Mont-Tremblant vacation rentals will give you an idea of what you can expect when you choose our mountain town for your mom’s best Mother’s Day gift!

The Difference Is Clear

Once the tears of joy have cleared from her eyes, your mom might just have to pinch herself to ensure that this fabulous Mother’s Day getaway is really happening! Open the door to an adventure in comfort and style and let her lead the way to rooms filled with treasures just waiting to be discovered. Modern decor will welcome her warmly. Living rooms are designed for family gatherings, with soaring ceilings and floor-to-ceiling windows that let in the views. Mom will get to choose the seat that will serve as her throne for the duration of your stay. Perhaps she will sink into the plush depths of a sectional that faces both an ultramodern television and a romantic fireplace, (It does get cool at night, even in the month of May!) or maybe that overstuffed chair by the window will be the perch she makes her own, reading a book she found on the shelves and relaxing as she hasn’t been able to do in years.

The dining rooms of our Mont-Tremblant rentals may also provide another place for her to reign over the roost. Providing large tables surrounded by enough seats for everyone in your traveling party, the dining rooms will be the center of family activities as you play games, enjoy meals, or simply sit and chat over coffee and cookies. The true gift to mom will be these moments of time devoted to family and togetherness! The kitchens, located just steps away from the dining area, may not be a space that your mom will be using much, but she will enjoy sitting at the breakfast bar, imparting tips on how to make the potato salad taste just like her mom’s! Game rooms in some of our homes will give the kiddos a place they can call their own, but don’t be surprised when the mom you are celebrating shows off some mad pool skills.

The Luxuries Continue on Your Mont-Tremblant Vacation

As you may expect, the landscape of Mont-Tremblant is destined to take your breath away, but what you may not expect is the fun that can be had when you step out the back door. Large decks divided into different living zones are most enjoyed this beautiful time of the year, providing a place to sit and contemplate the beauty of the trees that dot the countryside beyond, a place to enjoy a family barbecue with most of the meal prepared on shiny barbecue grills that you know dad is just itching to get his spatulas on! Some of our beautiful havens at Tremblant Living will feature firepits surrounded by chairs, giving a place for roasting marshmallows and telling ghost stories. Others will provide a bubbling hot tub, offering a spot to soak and chill and yet another beautiful way to spoil the first woman you ever loved! And because less isn’t more when on vacation, some of our homes will offer large private pools or access to community ones that are guaranteed to be the most popular part of your spring escape to the mountains with mom.

Bedroom Retreats

Finally, during your days in Mont-Tremblant, you will be busy hiking, swimming, or shopping at cute little boutiques, ensuring that when night falls, retreating to the tranquil and relaxing bedrooms will be mom’s favorite part of the day. Plush beds anchor these spaces, and modern bathrooms containing deep tubs and updated fixtures will help ease the transition between wide awake and sound asleep. Reserve mom’s favorite haven today!
