Snow had fallen in Tremblant – a lot! We’ve accumulated over 5 inches and it is still falling. Residents and visitors alike are getting very excited for the season to come. The official beginning of the 77th ski season in Tremblant will be this Thursday, November 24th!

Tremblant has a very interesting history: the first person to imagine Tremblant as world-class ski village was Joseph Bondurant Ryan, a man who originally came to the area on the search for gold. And gold he found, though not the type he expected. After hiking up the mountain with a couple of friends on seal skins  ( a practice still enjoyed today by many in Tremblant!), Mr. Ryan opened the Mont-Tremblant Lodge in 1939.

The resort we know in love today was built when Intrawest purchased the resort from Quebec entrepreneurs. In 1991 the company designed and created the colourful postcard worthy village we associate with Tremblant today.

An impressive resort it is.  The tallest mountain in the area at 2751 feet boasts a 6km long run and a total of 14 lifts. The capacity is 27 230 skiers per hour, with at least 50% of trails being black diamonds (more difficult).

Though we are less than 130km from Montreal, Tremblant now has a local airport. The train used to be the most popular way to arrive to the Tremblant ski resort, and the ride was part of the fun! The old train tracks have been remodeled into a multi-purpose trail for outdoor activities “Le Petit Train du Nord.”
