The 3rd Festival of Alpine Touring, or Festival Rando Alpine, starts in a couple of weeks in Tremblant. January 20th to 22nd will be filled with fun activities, many of which are free, for novices and experts of this exciting sport.

What is alpine touring? Well, this is a special form of back country skiing. Instead of taking a chair lift or gondola up the mountain, you have special skins (traditionally these were seal skin) that attach to your skis so you can grip and ski up the mountain. These trails are not usually marked, and you must go in the company of an expert guide. Once you reach the top, you can ski down amidst beautiful, often untouched, wilderness.

The Festival is a really great opportunity to try out this sport. There are going to be so many chances, with very qualified guides and instructors.
The kickoff event is a Fatbike (winter cycling! It is all the rage!) tour that goes from the resort to the Scandinave Spa. There you can enjoy a welcome cocktail and a special evening price for the Scandinavian baths!

On Saturday morning, you can try a sunrise ascent (like the locals do!) or on Saturday evening, enjoy a special night touring expedition with a fondue dinner at the base camp.

Sunday during the day offers tours of 3 to 5 hours in length, depending on your skill and energy levels. There will be a screening of a film and then goodbye cocktails at 2 pm, with some prizes! You can find more details about this great festival on the Tremblant website.
